(AP) - Authorities are trying to find out who toppled dozens of tombstones in a rural Decatur County cemetery. Decatur County Sheriff's Deputy Dave Henderson says 30 to 40 gravestones were destroyed at the Shiloh Cemetery. Some stones dated from the 1850s, and some are estimated to weigh two tons. Henderson says a group of people may have entered the cemetery last week and vandalized the markers. Cemetery officials estimated it would take three or four people to topple some of the stones. What, they desecrate graves when there are no Jews there? For about half a year already, I've been encouraging women to visit Tel Shiloh, not as regular tourists, but as spiritual pilgrims. Shiloh is an ancient site, rich is history. The highlight is when Chana prayed for a son who was to lead the Hebrew Tribes into a Jewish Kingdom. In today's terms, it could be considered a radical change in government system. Today the Jewish People are in a similar malaise, and we need true leadership. Shiloh is the place to pray for it. We also pray our private prayers. About half of Yonah Tzoref's vineyard suffered damage. He told me he suspects that a welder let a spark get loose and a wind did the rest. The fire crew showed up, tried its best, together with volunteers. More than anything else, the wind changed and protected the chicken runs nearby. Thank G-d the damage was limited and thanks to all those who came running. One of issues is the on-going negotiations over right-of-way access with six property owners, and until those negotiations come to some sort of settlement, the project remains on hold. Lynch says that topping the list of concerns for land owners is price, access, and the potential for development after the road is built. In other words, normal expansion althought the word "settlement" in the article doesn't refer to a Jewish revenant community in a portion of the historic Jewish homeland but rather a negotiated financial deal. And then, I continued reading and was astounded: "We are talking with all of them and I think we're getting closer with a few and a few, maybe not" explained Lynch. "We haven't reached the point that we're done talking , when that happens then we might have to look at what some of the other alternatives may be [be]fore the department to keep this project on track." Lynch adds that one alternative could be yet another design change, and as a last resort, the Department of Transportation could move to condemn the property . Did you notice that? To build a road, the local government is going to offer money to six property owners who are literally in the way, and if that doesn't work, the property will be taken away as condemned because the government has decided that they are done talking . For the past few months, I've been utilizing the internet to invite women to pray here in Shiloh. I'm certainly no Elkana. I'm just a wife, mother, grandmother who davka lives in Shiloh. It never ceases to amaze me to hear from others how as soon as they got to Shiloh, they knew that they had to live here. Obviously, it's not a universal reaction or there would be thousands and thousand of residents. Also, some people don't act on their feelings. Chazal , our Sages, say that it's not that Avraham Avinu , Our Forefather Abraham, was the first person G-d spoke to about going to "the Land I will show you," it's just that he was the first one to listen and obey. Yesterday, when my friends and I talking about the aura we feel in Shiloh, we discussed the expanse of Land which it covers. It's not like going to some tomb we must touch, or the Kotel , the Western Wall. Some of us "feel Shiloh" from the area of Tapuach to the north, just west of Ariel and south until Waadi Charamiya. Yes, Shiloh was the Capital City of pre-Jerusalem Biblical History. We feel privileged to be living in such a richly spiritual place. So, here in Shiloh we prayed for our Nation, our families.
